How It Works
The PUMPHRP17-12 functions as a reversing pumpset that interfaces with the NavPilot autopilot system to control your vessel's hydraulic steering. The pump assembly features a reversible gerotor gear pump housed within an eccentric ring, enabling incredibly quiet and precise operation.
In a hydraulic steering system, the pump is connected to a hydraulic actuator and one or more helm pumps. When the steering wheel is turned towards port, the helm pump directs hydraulic oil into the port steering line, moving the steering cylinder and thus the rudder to steer the vessel. The oil from the starboard side returns to the helm pump through the starboard hydraulic lines. Turning the wheel to starboard reverses this process, ensuring responsive and accurate steering control.
Installation Requirements
For optimal performance, if multiple helm pumps are utilized, a return/fill line must be installed to connect all helm pump cases together. This setup ensures consistent oil flow and steering responsiveness across your hydraulic steering system.
